Add content from Any Website into Your Knowledge Base

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Need to bring information from your public website or documentation portal into your knowledge base?

The External Website Import feature lets you do exactly that—automatically and intelligently.

What It Does

This feature allows you to import and sync pages from any external website—such as a public trust center, support docs, or a blog—directly into your knowledge base. It captures content, organizes it into versions, and keeps everything up to date.

How It Works

The import process involves six key steps:

  1. Trigger the Import

Start an import from Settings > Site Pages by entering the URL of the website you want to import. You can choose whether to include subpages (linked pages on the same domain).

  2. Scrape Website Content

Our system securely reads the website’s text content—page by page—gathering text blocks and normalizing URLs to ensure all content is clean and structured.

  3. Detect New or Updated Pages

For each page, we generate a checksum (like a fingerprint) to detect if it’s new or has changed since the last import. Each version of the page is tracked for historical reference.

  4. Save Everything Securely

Each page is converted into a file and saved to your knowledge base. Records in your database are updated to reflect pages that were added or modified.

  5. Track Progress and Trigger Actions

Progress updates are logged throughout the process so you always know what’s happening. Once files are stored, downstream tasks like search indexing are triggered automatically, ensuring the content is ready to use right away.

  6. View Imported Pages

All imported pages are linked to their original website entry. You can easily view and manage them from your dashboard.
